Cracking Gas Coolers

Cracking gas coolers (linear and tunnel) manufactured by BORSIG Process Heat Exchanger company are used in ethylene plants (material for plastic production). In so-called cracking furnaces, petroleum products (e.g. gasoline, diesel fuel) are thermally treated at about 1000°C and converted into cracking gas. This cracking gas contains ethylene in addition to other gases. In order to obtain the highest possible ethylene yield, cracking gas shall be quickly cooled to 400°C. This is done in BORSIG cracking gas coolers (water is the cooling medium). High-pressure steam produced as a result of cooling is sent to the steam drum and used further for power generation. In adjacent units ethylene is separated from other gases resulting in pure ethylene. BORSIG Process Heat Exchanger company develops cracking gas coolers in two different designs depending on customer requirements:

  • BORSIG Linear Quencher (BLQ);
  • BORSIG Tunnelflow Transfer Line Exchanger (TLE).

BORSIG cracking gas coolers are easy to operate, highly reliable and robust.
